Shumohun Casino and Hotel has now refuges accommodation containing approximately 1800 refugees and capable of holding 5,000 more. There is also Saint John's Ambulance Hospital post there with

150 patients. I am anxious to have a small eroa round these buildings demilitarised and T. V.Soong has now informed the Director

of Medical Services that the Chinese Commander in that region promised to withdraw all troops from the area within one mile of the

railway station.

Will you please enquire whether the Japanese Military Authorities would agree to the demilitarisation of the small area to

eastern side of the railway embankmont so as to include the track

On the South and West by Shunchun River to the point

where the river bends west again about 1,000 yards north north west

of the railway bridge at Lowu.

On the North by the stream which runs from the railway and

If the Japanese agree in principle could it be ascertained what their requirements would be as to demarcation, control and so
